The President of Dopolavoro Filellenico, Professor Giancarlo Antonucci and the President of the Taranto 25 Foundation, Dr. Fabio Tagarelli, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday, 5th of March at 5:00 p.m., at the Foundation’s headquarters, located at 17 Pentite Street, Taranto.
The non-profit organization of entrepreneurs of Taranto has approved the cultural project of the cultural association active in the city since 2009, and in particular the conference entitled “Taranto chiAma Sparta”, whose second edition will take place on Saturday, 7 March, starting at 9:00 a.m., at the Ionian Department of the University of Bari, in the Old Town.
The agreement, made possible thanks to the intervention of Professor Patrizia D’Elia, aims to promote and support, on the part of the Foundation, the cultural and social objectives of the philhellenic association through programs and joint cooperation agreements.
Following the ratification of the Memorandum of Understanding, a press conference will be held to present the conference. The keynote speaker will be the Byzantinist Dr. (PhD) Niki Koutraku, who will deliver a lecture entitled “Medieval Sparta: Image and Reality. Parallel Lives with Taranto?”, a compelling topic that has been little or not at all previously explored and which will undoubtedly contribute new insights to the study of the historical relations between the two communities.
Niki Koutraku previously served as Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy in Rome and subsequently as Ambassador of Greece to Algeria. She currently serves as Diplomatic Advisor to the Mayor of Athens, is Minister Plenipotentiary ad honorem, and an honorary member of Dopolavoro Filellenico.
The conference has received the patronage of the Embassy of Greece in Italy, the Region of Apulia, and the Municipality of Taranto.
